Alessandra Cimatoribus
Spilimbergo, Italy

APE Games was very fortunate to have Alessandra draw Big Top for us. We were also fortunate to have her answer some questions on her work on the game.

APE: First, we should tell readers that you are Italian. Where in Italy do you live?

I live in Spilimbergo, a little town of Friuli, the region situated in the North-East of Italy. I'm 120 km from Venice.

APE: The gaming industry knows your art from such games as Torres, San Marco, and now Big Top, but you do most of your work outside of the game industry. Where else can fans see your art?

I mainly work as a childrens' books illustrator; my books are actually published in Italy, Portugal and Sweden. I also work for advertising, for theatre and other.

APE: We did an informal survey on our web page a while back, asking people what their favorite Big Top card was (from the 8 pieces on the web site.) It was a close contest, but in the end Monkeys won (that's my favorite piece, too!) Do you have a favorite Big Top card?

I like best the cover (the ringmaster card).

APE: The fun style and vibrant, cheerful colors that typify your art were perfect for Big Top. Something you do with much of your work is to scatter letters around each piece. We here at APE Games are very curious about those letters. Are the particular letters you choose in any way meaningful to the specific piece they're on?

I would like you to imagine what you prefer about letters…

APE: The circus in the United States seems to never lose its appeal for young and old alike. Is the circus popular in Italy? How is it different than the American circus?

Yes, the circus is pretty popular in Italy. I believe there aren't many differences between American and Italian circus; circus' artists come from all over the world; I think that circus is a universal kind of show.

APE: Thanks much for doing the art for our game and for doing this interview. Is there anything you'd like to add?

I enjoyed doing Big Top, it has been a very funny work for me, thank'you APE Games!
